About Us
After living in Thailand and travelling around Asia, my husband and I fell in love with all of the food, smells, tastes, textures and the method of how the food was prepared and cooked.
Being out in the town, I used to watch the street sellers in their environment. Then I would go home and copy what I had seen that day for my husband to try. Soon the recipes started coming together!
When living in Durban, South Africa, we decided to start Kamchi Gyoza. We made and sold freshly steamed dumplings at a local food market on the weekends.
By the time we came back to the UK, I was ready to branch out further and the street food market had just started kicking off in London so it was perfect timing. We soon became regulars, at StreetFeast, Netil Market in Hackney and had a regular spot at the Camden Town Brewery on a Friday night, often selling thousands of dumplings to hungry customers. We even took over the kitchen at the Royal Oak Pub in Loughton which was a HUGE success!
When I fell pregnant with my twin boys, unfortunately, I had to stop.
Now my boys are older and settled I have decided to throw myself back into what I love and so we have now rebranded as KatsuQueen where we will be predominantly selling our delicious katsu and we obviously couldn’t forget about our dumplings which is where it all started!
They are no longer steamed but cooked the Japanese way, which finishes them off with a crispy bottom.
We hope you enjoy our food, as much as we have enjoyed putting the recipes together and cooking them for you.
Emma.
